At the time of purchase this was (as far as I could see) the best price v capacity for an external 2.5" hard drive (although it is actually slightly bigger than standard, but only by a little) at PB tech.

However (and this is something that I probably should of thought of before hand) that does come with one big compromise and that is speed. Crystal disk mark clocks it at about 40 MB/s, for comparison a nine year old 1TB 2.5" WD HD I have is about 80 MB/s (so double). In practice it does about 37 MB/s when transferring large video files onto it.

For my use case its not the end of the word as I am mostly just copy the files I want over and it just takes however long it takes. However, if you need stuff done quickly you will want to look at something else. Honestly, I think the actual expected speeds should be noted on the product page somewhere because it is much slower than you would expect from a normal external drive.

I upgraded from a 3TB model which I typically have connected full time to the TV, I was slightly worried a 5TB model may be too much for the TV but I can confirm it works flawlessly.

This drive is fast enough to be a working drive and has the capacity to be very useful storage. Its small size means it can be carried easily in a pocket and it takes up next to no room on the desk.
