Bought this to convert my old VHS cassettes to HDMI for video capture. Despite the claim on the box AND the listing here, this unit does not convert a VCR RCA signal properly to an HDMI signal. On all three of my VHS VCRs I tested, the signal displayed fine on a monitor through RCA connection but as soon as the signal went through this unit the HDMI output was constant flicker and distortion. The support I received at the store both times (as I returned a previous unit that didn't work) was poor at best with the staff member looking for any excuse to blame my equipment/connection. Of course they had no equipment to test this unit on. After some discussions I received a credit for the unit.
Please be wary if you are looking to convert a VHS VCR signal to HDMI. This unit will not do this.

I've tried this device so far on a Wii, a PS1, and a PS2, with two different TV's (One Sony, and one Kogan), and so far, a very low rate of success. Out of all the possible combinations, I'm yet to have an acceptable result. Would not recommend. For anyone wanting to know if this works for retro gaming consoles this will be the review I was searching for myself. I can confirm that it works perfectly for both the PlayStation 1 and the NES original console, I read a review about it not working for a NES but I can assure you it does. It near PERFECTLY converted RCA to hdmi and suitably upscaled to suit a 2024 75inch 4K Samsung for both the PS1 and NES. all the forums online said the cheap ones won’t work but I can assure you, especially for the money this is the product to go for over the much more expensive products forums online recommend.

This is well worth the purchase. Got it to convert TV to WII games for the grandchildren and they are loving it. Unfortunately I couldn’t make this unit work for me.
The sound was okay but the picture was very jittery and not watchable.
I tried various settings but still could not get the unit to work properly.
I tried different video cassettes but all produced the same results.

I returned the unit today and was given a credit.

PB Tech staff helped me find this device so that I could use the Wii console on our new TV. The new Tele didn’t have the red, yellow and white ports for the Wii connectors (only HDMI ports), and this device works a treat! I have tested connecting my PS2 using the standard AV cable (also known as 'composite') to this converter and then to my 1080p Panasonic Plasma TV, my Xiaomi Ultrawide Gaming QHD Monitor (1440p) and even my Samsung 4K monitor. I have cycled between 720p and 1080p resolutions using the converter and in all cases I get a very dark and blurry image - NFS Underground 2 was barely playable.

After a lot of research (Reddit/YouTube) it seems that it may come down to the converter I have as these are very cheap. But a lot of people have also compared using component cables and a 'Component to HDMI' converter to using a composite cable and a 'Composite to HDMI' converter (which is this product) and they seemed to have better results with the former. FYI, Component cables have 3 display heads (Red, Green and Blue) instead of the standard 1x Yellow on the composite cables and so that makes sense and they seem to be the better choice!

In short, if you have a component cable for your console and your display of choice (considered old tech now) accepts that input, use that. Otherwise, using a 'Component to HDMI' converted might be the second-best option. Using this converter for a PS2 is a horrible experience, but anything older than a PS2 and a smaller resolution output might just work great.
