Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop Keyboard & Mouse Combo

Using this keyboard at work. The number of times I have had to retype something is shocking. It seems the keyboard goes to sleep. I have owned this combo for three months now. I love the keyboard; particularly that the number pad is detached and therefore does not obstruct mouse movement (my main reason for purchase). Ergonomics are good, although the key layout/spacing took a while to get used to.
Could be improved by a small LCD (not backlit) to indicate status of capslock, numlock and scroll-lock.

The mouse I still don't like that much; my little finger drags along the desk, the left button gets jammed, I often right-click by accident (its where I grip the mouse), and the thumb button ('back' button) is annoying because that is also where I want to grip the mouse. It is not possible to disable the thumb button without installing extra software.
So the keyboard is great, but not the mouse for me.

Rather amazingly, it appears you can *not* simply replace the dongle, as they are uniquely paired with the keyboard and mouse. So, because her dongle died, we have to submit a warranty repair which will take who-knows-how-long. There is a three year warranty, but that hardly makes up for the hassle I'm sure we're about to go through.

Great keyboard love how little spacer it takes up & the that you can place the numerical keyboard were it suits you. The mouse is a waste of time but the rest makes up for that. I absolutely love this keyboard (can't stand the mouse though so would love an option to buy without the mouse as it will just become landfill). I've now used this keyboard for well over two years but I'm now on my second broken dongle. Like the last reviewer, it seems impossible to have this repaired or simply replaced. Instead - more plastic land fill - i have to throw away a perfectly good keyboard and buy a whole new set.

But because the keyboard is so good I will - would love to put my rating to the 5 stars it deserves if they would only fix this issue. These are wonderful BUT are fatally and unacceptably flawed. Have bought several for our company and my own one, but will buy no more.

If you lose the USB dongle or it breaks, you can chuck the whole lot the trash, then go and buy a Logitech set with unifying (replaceable) receiver.

Pros: comfortable wrist rest, good angle between the keys for the two hands allowing straight wrists, separate numeric keypad so that the mouse can be close to keypad (this reduces RSI from mousing).
Cons: wireless connection can be flaky (need short distance between keyboard and wireless receiver), if anything breaks you have to replace the whole set. Very well made set; feels solid and stable. Keyboard layout does not take long to get used to. Mouse is good for big hands; I can palm it quite well rather than having to use claw grip. Decent feel on keystroke and button press.

No back-light which helps with battery life but not great when gaming in the dark. Holding a key down only works for about 10 seconds (to save battery?) so running across a map you have to keep holding and releasing the key. Felt some minor conflict when pressing several keys together. Aiming with mouse not so great due to palm grip using the whole arm (great for ergonomics, nonsense for fast accuracy).

This is the 2nd one of these keyboards I have bought, one at work office and at home. Having had some minor wrist RSI issues in the past, this is easily the most comfortable keyboard / posture shape for your arms that I have come across (hence using at home now too). The main drawback is Microsoft's frustrating economic model that forces you to buy a bundle of mouse and numeric pad too - I would have preferred just to get the keyboard alone. But that is not PB's fault, they have been great to deal with and (like all of us) seem stuck with MS sales techniques.
