Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+, AR Finding walks you step-by-step to lost items

Bought two units, one for dog who likes to do a runner when he gets the chance and the other for my car. Tracking is very good and accurate and the fact that the battery is replaceable and cheap is a bonus. Much cheaper than having GPS tracking in car too as you don't need to subscribe to a data plan. This is a great tracker - great app with great features. However the batteries only seem to last 2-3 weeks. Samsung website says "SmartTag uses a single Coin Cell battery and can last up to 300 days of usage but, battery lifetime may vary depending on usage pattern of users". My usage is to simply turn it on and put on my key-ring, i.e. pretty basic usage, so shouldn't cause the battery to 1/20th of the time stated. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to find out what settings I can do that might extend the battery life, but none apparent. I put the SmartTag inside the checkin luggage and I can track the luggage in transit at different airports. I think I will buy another one and put that inside my car because sometimes I forget where I park my car! I bought this for my husband's luggage while we travelled through the US last month. I had the Apple version and they both worked well. We had heard tales of luggage being lost so this provided the additional assurance that the luggage was keeping up with us as we travelled. I put it on my dogs collar to see if would be viable to find her if she got lost. It wasn't able to connect or get much more than an occasional weak ping unless she was already really close. The speaker wasn't audible over a short distance outside.

I also asked my kids to hide with it. Once they went a meter or two into light bush it couldn't connect.

Around the house it seemed to have a better chance of being found, but I wouldn't rely on using this to track anything that will be in motion or outside an urban environment.
