HDMI to VGA adapter I bought of Manukau store came in a nice box and works perfectly fine however was dearer than what I saw in Jaycar. Since I had credit with PB Tech, we got it from them and are happy with it. The cable itself does what it says on the tin (well, what it says on the website). My particular need was to match a new notebook without a vga port to an existing lcd monitor.

It may be the graphics driver is better in the new notebook than the old, or it might just be the conversion circuitry integrated into the cable does a damn fine job, but the display on the external monitor is brilliant. As usual with PB Tech, a smooth process to purchase, and no trouble delivery.

I needed this to connect a second computer (with HDMI video out) to the VGA inputon my monitor. This adapter works nicely. The audio can be split out to a speaker via 3.5mm stereo jack. It does the job, however, the adapter requires a power source from your USB port which can really take a toll on the battery of your laptop. By plugging this adapter in, my laptops battery life significantly decreased, it needed constant charging and also now it says that the battery must be replaced.
