Make sure you download the cloning software for the branded drive you are cloning too. My drive is a Samsung. I found the cloning software and it did the job fairly easily and quickly. Used this to upgrade a HDD to SSD on my daughters ageing laptop (it still has VGA but it was a freebie from her ex employer) and it was very easy.

Plug USB into USB port, plug SSD into the other end. Run the software to clone the drive. Swap out the old HDD, plug in the new SSD and hey presto, performance upgrade. It is so useful I will keep it handy for the next time I need to do this. Well-made adapter/cable that enabled me to wipe numerous SSDs used on our decommissioned servers. Very, very easy to use. There slightly cheaper alternatives made by other brands, but I know StarTech products have a great reputation and are great quality. I have bought other StarTech products which have performed superbly, and this adapter is no exception. Definitely recommend this one. Purchased a couple of these to clone a old laptop disk drive to a SSD. Allows you to plug in the drives using the standard SATA interface and hook it up to you machine running the cloning software via USB.

Well made. I bought to replace cheap ebay/ aliexpress items that were poorly built and would loose connection.
So far have transferred terabytes of data with no issue.
