Xiaomi TV Stick 4K Streaming Media Player Android TV 11, HDMI / WIFI / Bluetooth - Power adapter Not included - Powered by Android TV

I had owned the 1080p version of this stick for a few years but it started getting a bit slow over time so I decided to buy this one. This is even better than the 1080p version both because it is faster and because it can do 4k@60fps. Because it runs Android, you can also install versions of YouTube without ads ;-)

Not sure if this is a problem with my TV or the number of things connected near the stick, but it can happen but only when using the HDMI extension. Perhaps a shielded HDMI extension would fix this.
The second is that the Bluetooth remote range isn't that great (and I have a small living room) so I often find my remote disconnecting while watching things and then the TV will force to me pair with it again. This wasn't an issue with the 1080p stick.
It also doesn't come with a power adapter, so you'll need to supply your own 5V/1A USB adapter.

Update: after having used this for about a year, it is now running slowly. Apps will crash and the UI (even on the home screen) will lag. I've gone into the developer settings to make apps shut down after they are closed, but this barely fixed anything. I probably wouldn't recommend this device any more

Our internet connection is very strong, we have in another room a Chromecast and it's flawless. So that doesn't seem to be the issue.
Also, for a device being mostly used in the bedroom at night, it's hard to see the remote buttons. And there's no "mute".
I'll throw this out an get another Chromecast. It may be more expensive, but at least you get what you're paying.
I give it two starts instead on one because when it works, it's mostly ok.

* Smooth playback of 4K Remuxes 100+Mb/s (Depends on your WiFi connection. I was on 5GHz with download speeds of 200+ Mbps)
* WiFi reception is strong, better than my phone from 2019
* Bluetooth 5.2
* Latest OS on ATV11 (Jan23 Security Patch as of Mar23)

Cons:
* No support for Dolby TrueHD/DTS HD-MA/X
* Only 2GB RAM and 8GB storage with no option to expand it
* No Ethernet Ports

Overall, it's an OK experience.
Recently got the FireTV4KMax2ndGen for a lower price than this which has double the storage (16 vs 8gb lol), faster processor, support for all lossless audio codecs (using Kodi), refresh rate/resolution switching, includes a power adaptor, wifi 6e, and is a lot smoother. Only con is FireOS with their homescreen/ads.

With no fibre/broadband connection available for internet access on my phone, I bought this receiver as a trial to see if its Android protocols would connect with an iPhone 14 for internet access via cell sites, and re-transmit it to the Xiami via the same iPhone hotspot. The upgraded images were superb to my 8-year old Samsung B550 Plasma, and a considerable improvement over my old SD Chromecast. Even though working off the cellular network, the pictures looked much higher in definition despite being limited to 1080p by the set.
Now with a fibre connection installed the sticks performance is very good and I'm happy with the combination turning the Samsung tv into a psuedo-smart tele.

Some cons though:
- The remote is plasticy and flimsy in construction
- Pressing certain push buttons generates a creaking sound
- The main quadring of pushbuttons has no direction arrows printed on it, making the up/down/left/right functions a tad hard to find without looking
- the stick sometimes shuts itself down after 30-45 mins of operation but I suspect connection to a separate USB power source would fix this.
- there is no usb port so it's not a media player

These are not serious issues however and for the price I consider it a perfectly suitable option for converting a dumb-tv to a 'smart' one, with great pictures and sound to boot. Does Netflix, Amazon, Prime and YouTube only.

I bought it and was amazed by all its apps and what it can do, be sure to connect it to the power instead of the tv to avoid problems. The only thing that its missing is the Xiaomi TV app which is not available yet in New Zealand. But other than that, very much recommended.
