It was simple to install in the Caddy that replaces the CD Drive and had absolutely no signs of damage.
Worked right out of the box for both Linux Mint 16.04 and Microsoft Windows 10

A good drive for everyday use in a modern fast computer. Have trusted Seagate drives for a number of years now. The only downside is that they are not backed by a better warranty given the fact that they have obviously improved their design and durability. Before you buy this drive, be aware that it uses SMR technology and performance will be highly degraded if used in a RAID environment. They are cheap for a reason. It can take up to 16 days (yes, 16 days) to rebuild a RAID array using an SMR technology drive. 17 hours using CMR technology drives.

The manufacturer does not appear to advertise SMR in the description and, under NZ law, they should.

Check the product code against known SMR brand drives before you buy any drives.

While the product listed here is the 1TB variant, I actually purchased two of the identical 2TB Seagate Barracuda internal hard disks for my new pc build. 1TB disks just don't cut it on an enthusiast build anymore.

My purchase was a week ago and so far no issues. I am getting motherboard SATA to SATA copy speeds between two identical drives of 200MB/s burst tapering to 50MB/s at the tail end of the copy. A 1Gb avi video file taking 15 seconds to copy disk to disk. Coincidentally I also have an identical 2TB Seagate Barracuda 3.5 drive purchased at the same time and in the same machine. I can definitely recommend these disks. I have been purchasing Seagate Barracudas since the old IDE days and they rarely disappoint.
