Upgraded from a USG-3 and cloud key. Was hesitant as I liked the idea of having separate devices that swap out. But so far the change has been easy, convenient (as these just 1 device to power) and a much nicer experience. Very impressed with performance over NetCom router, tittle says it all.

due to the nice interface, it is very easy to trouble shoot and see where issues are. Google is a big help on locating/understanding anything that don't make sense.

It has so much potential, but ultimately on the software front it's something more like something you would get off kickstarter.

Just look to the ubiquiti forums, there have been people asking for years for features. Instead the UI was updated (which looks better, but is missing functionality and makes dealing with the firewall a pain).

For me, the firmware constantly corrupts, meaning I have to reset the router and restore all my settings (make sure you take a backup as soon as you change anything). The wifi is super unreliable, our devices have a hard time staying connected, no something you want with modern IoT devices, as half the time, things just don't work. In a modern network setup you should segment IoT devices in seperate VLANS, I use IoT and J(ail)oT networks, for trusted and untrusted (no internet connectivity) devices. To make pairing and etc work, you need multicast relaying, well the UDM has a IGMP repeater which is not usable. Instead you have to deploy a customer docker container to get this to work. I have domain and like to use it with a cert to access my router internally, ubiquiti has only a self-signed cert, again you have to resort to a custom docker container to pull a letsencrypt cert. All these custom solutions can be stopped every update (unless you use - yes you guessed it, another custom solution to ensure they are started).

I ran a Pfsense router before this with ubiquity APs and switches, and am going to back to one again. The UDM and UDM-Pro are broken and people need to veto them until ubiquity fix the software.

TDLR; Don't buy this if -> you use lots of firewall rules, want a ssl cert to access your router, you want to run a seperate IoT vlan, you want a router which doesn't corrupt, you want your network to be stable. I ran PFSense for years and it was more stable than this.

The main issue was setting it up. My internet connection uses vlan tagging, and during the set up (under "advanced") there was no option for vlan tagging. So I had to set it up using DHCP with another router to gain access to this setting.

Bought this to combat flakey network connections with the hardware we originally got for our home network. We now have a much more stable and reliable connection without needing to know in-depth details on networking. Wifi range on this thing is very limited, was expecting much better (the router bundled from ISP works better)

Once we got it connected from replacing the spark modem (fiber to ethnet took sometime) its amazing. I wish I got one earlier to control my net work. I have an automated system on wifi and a separate ssid of all other devices like my phone t.v ect... The Unifi system let me run the UDM and a nanoHD together and I've got seamless wifi across the building, roaming between the APs works great.
