Microsoft Surface Go 3 10.5" Tablet - Black

I've read so many reviews that say to avoid to unit because it is so slow. However this is the only option if you want a small, light, windows PC for travel. I haven't experience any problems with speed with the Pentium processor & 128GB SSD. I mainly use for Web browsing, office apps (Word/Excel), viewing and backing up photos, PLC programming and emails. As soon as I got it, I took it out of windows S mode so that I can install any software I like. And unlike the Surface pro 8 that I have, this has a micro SD slot to expand your memory. I was in the market for a portable device I could use for travel, i.e., something around the 10" screen size. I considered a Samsung 10" tablet and the MS offering. I had an old Surface 3 (not Pro) which served me well, but struggled with the latest software. This Surface Go 3 fitted my requirements much better than the Android offerings (with the same screen size). When travelling, I can connect to a TV using a USB-C to HDMI adaptor, something that is possible only one some (expensive) Samsung tablets. Also, I can charge the device while it is connected to an external screen, something you can't do on a Samsung tablet.

The Surface Go 3 comes with the option of a Core i3 processor and more SSD storage, but the Pentium CPU is adequate for my purposes, and the Core i3 version is significantly more expensive. I bought a 256GB SSD card, which is really easy to insert into the back of the device – to store videos to watch when travelling. I also bought the detachable keyboard (Type Cover).

Overall, I am happy with my purchase. It does exactly what I need for a secondary device that I need to be extremely portable, but with enough grunt to do most of my regular tasks. I would not use this as my primary computer.

I am not the greatest most tech savvy person and have found this tablet to be so easy to use and navigate my way around Windows 11, which is an awesome upgrade for Windows 10. I was looking at buying both a Laptop and an iPad and found that this tablet exceeds having an iPad, Microsoft store has a lot of great apps that you can download. The security features with Microsoft are also exceptional. I have no problem recommending this tablet to anyone looking for a laptop or a tablet !!

I purchased this during lockdown and I was super impressed that it was the same day service and also the click and collect manner felt very safe and the staff were lovely.

I was looking for a simple tablet which would allow me to use a pen while also allowing for computer mode. Super good choice! I wouldn’t use it for anything complicated though. The tablet and keyboard are good quality, but it is a little slower than expected. Probably should have purchased a higher specification one, I'll probably not use this too much because of the speed. Originally was going to get an Android tablet however buying this tablet has allowed for us to get ease of access with a PC without the need of a laptop. Great for road trips or wherever you need a simple PC touchscreen solution for an affordable price.

Not sure about two things that are worth considering before purchase: S Mode is something I wasn't aware of and limits the types of apps that can be used - currently exploring this further. Second thing is whether I need security software for it. It says it comes with it but is that sufficient? The Microsoft Store does not have Eset Nod 32 which is my preferred anti-virus software and for which I have a license but can't use on this device in S Mode. You see the problem.
