Intel Core i7 12700 CPU

It's not a K series CPU. Having bought the i7 12700 as an upgrade from an i9 9900k, I couldn't be happier.

I did consider a K series CPU or 13th Gen, but being concerned about thermal management and taking into consideration my typical use (Gaming needs & basic computer-based such as email/browsing tasks). I decided on the i7 12700, which more than handles my needs for gaming with Farcry Franchise, Division 2, and Anno 1800 while offering easy management of CPU thermals. With the increased core & thread count, this was a solid CPU choice for my upgrade.

Pros: A good bang for buck buy, Good and stable speed, 12 Cores up from 8, Low to moderate thermals, Lower power draw requirement, I had to buy a 12th Gen Mobo which offers an upgrade path to a 13th Gen CPU when & if needed.
Cons: Needed a new MOBO that could accommodate a 12th Gen chip, Not a K series CPU (But Meh).

At 65w this is still a very fast CPU and runs cool and doesn't place a big load on your cooler. At lower core usage the 65w isn't a limitation, the power ceiling only limits the clock speed once you load up several threads. Your BIOS or Intel XTU Software may let you raise the PL1 limit to 125W in which case you have close to a 12700K, but will need more than the standard Intel cooler to see maximum benefit. I procrastinated for a while over if I should get 12th Gen and if I should pay extra for the i7 and in the end I'm very pleased I did. Lightning fast, and nothing I have thrown at it in the week I have been using it has even made it break a sweat. I haven't discovered any drawbacks yet.
