We needed a new vacuum cleaner, and I decided and I decided that one which loaded the standard 3 pin wall outlet to its maximum should have adequate grunt. It did, operating just short of pulling the nails out of the floorboards, the dust didn't stand a chance. Alas, it functioned as a pretty good heater with 2,400 Watts to play with and while lifting the carpet off the floor and stretching it is an impressive stunt it gets pretty tiring pushing the agricultural scaled implement of dust digestion. Pulling it back is worse.

So, the Xiaomi light handheld 50 watt unit from PBTech was called up to the front line. It's light, easy to maneuver, gets dust dirt AND COTTON THREADS off the floor quietly and without fuss. Like a lot of small units it is a bit fiddly to empty, but the cleaning cycle is so quick and easy that it is now simple to do the house every day and still spend less time per week than doing it every three days with the high power beast. Carpet and lino looks just as good as the mighty sucker, and there is far less muscle and electrical energy expended. The lack of gale force exhaust, noise and room heating is most welcome, and there seems to be a much smaller amount of carpet pile biting the dust (bag).
It might be just me, but the wall mount seems to be a bit of a weak point, but a small modification to the mounting bracket fixed that satisfactorily. One thing it's not good for is cleaning up after using woodwork power tools, it doesn't take much sawdust to stop the suction. That job is reserved for the heavy mains powered unit, it has noise levels more suited to the workshop anyway.
Vacuuming is a more pleasant and faster process now, so, and while it is not ever going to power a half size wind tunnel, it does a great job on floors, upholstery and curtains. Probably not ideal for drying the bilges on a leaky boat, but a great non-intrusive, pleasant, and effective cleaning tool. Great value, I'm glad we bought it.
