Am using this to get my personal physical library of DVD/Blu-ray disks in to a form where I can stream them over the home network see above statement! In this mode it is quieter than the portable unit I purchased last month. Why buy a internal? well my old drive expired this is a great replacement. Yes it is more costly than just the DVD drives that is not the point the point is what it can read and yes it can read Blu-ray Ultra HD disks with the above statement!

I don't know about the software provided as I'm a Linux user here.

This product was originally sold as being UHD Blu-ray capable. and hardware wise it is.
However the corporate influence has lead to the latest firmware upgrades removing that ability. It is still a great drive and works with BDXL discs.
It you know how to roll back the firmware to a legacy version you will still be able to watch UHD 4K Blu-ray's from this drive.

Happy with the purchase. it performs reall well, no lag when seeking or reading DVDs any more.
The noise level is a bit high but acceptable.

I am using this Blu-ray writer to replace a similar unit which has lasted 15 years of daily work requiring just reading discs or writing my own back ups and rail movies. As the title says an all round great device. I don't like doing internal computer work but I found it very easy to install. It writes and reads at a good speed and doesn't make much noise.
