I have bought better Seagate drives 'equivalent' to this one but they're a bit more flimsy now. I lent one of mine to a friend who managed to pull the plug out of the drive and make it unreadable. He pulled it out when he removed the cable. Not happy about losing the contents. Will go back to WD drives to see if they're more hardy like previous ones I've had for a while. Bought this 4TB hard drive as my old one was running out of space. No problems so far, and Seagate drives are always reliable and good value for the price. I bought the similar 4TB desktop Seagate about a year ago. Both are USB 3.0, same disk RPM etc. This 2TB version is about 30% slower on reads, connected to same port, disk format etc for comparison. Good value, but don't use it as a work disk. Fine for a slower backup drive. I bought the similar 4TB desktop Seagate about a year ago. I reformat disks like this to an ext-4 filesystem & then use rsync to backup configuration, databases & /home

OK - I like not having to put all my research findings on the cloud - and so having a handy 4 Terrabyte external hard drive is a very useful backup. And I don't have to worry about solar flares and satellites.

This 4 Terrabyte does what I expected it to do (i.e., back up files and give me some peace of mind) but I was very pleasantly surprised by just how fast it downloaded a total of over 40,000 files. The case seems a little different this time around but they work exactly the same an so far none have let me down. I needed a spare drive to use so I could move a few TB of things between new and old computer and to use as a backup drive and was pleasantly surprise at how quick it was. Might have to buy another just so I can have an actual spare one as I have kept this one plugged in for now. This was just what I needed, transferring power was much better than expected, and moved a lot of data very quickly. Not extremely loud when running like some hard drives either.
