Sony MDR-7506 Wired Professional Monitor Headphones - Black

This is my second pair of this model of headphones, one for upstairs and one for down. They are beautifully balanced and neutral phones with plenty of sharp bass and a steal at the price. Yes, I know that the very long lead can be a pain if you don't handle it sensibly, but being able to sit quite a way away from the music source is so great. Highly recommended. These headphones are a Sony classic. Found in many professional recording studios, they never disappoint.
You get unbelievable detail in the entire mid and upper range. The bass is exteremely accurate without being boosted.

These are comfortable for wearing for long periods, and the neutral sound is much more reliable for mixing than the Sennheisers I had, although they also sounded good. They're lightweight too and he coiled cable is really practical. A lot of recorded music out there would have been mixed on these, so you really get the sound that was intended by the studio, and they're a steal at under $200. It's also essential that they're wired, so there's no lag when recording, or gaming I guess. You probably wouldn't want to wear them in the street though. I bought these for music listening rather than their normal usage in music production as I am a headphone enthusiast and own other quality phones from Beyerdynamic and Audiotechnica. These do not disappoint. Very neutral and clear sounding. Do not boost the bass notes like some other phones do but reproduce the bass range well if it is present in the recording. Comfortable to wear. I bought these for music listening rather than their normal usage in music production as I am a headphone enthusiast and own other quality phones from Beyerdynamic and Audiotechnica. I can see why these headphones have essentially stayed the same over the years, and are still on the market. Great sounds for listening to albums and for nitpicking small audio production tasks. They look, and feel cheap and nasty, the cups do not manage external noise very well [but thats generally fine in a studio], but they are light, and are reasonably comfortable.

I bought these headphones after reading reviews expecting them to have good frequency response including base, to be easy to maintain with screwed construction, a selection of after market muffs should they be needed, and a good price vs performance. Some reviews said that the coiled lead could be a little heavy, I have not found that to be an issue. The reviews said they were not particularly comfortable for long sessions. After about a months daily use it all turned out to be true (though I have not unscrewed them yet) and I would happily buy them again.
