The sound quality and noise cancelling on the Technics AZ80 earplugs are excellent, but the overall build quality is disappointing. I’ve had two units, and both ended up faulty. The first developed a recurring crackling noise every few seconds, and the second stopped charging altogether — which appears to be a common issue. I'm extremely disappointed with the Technics AZ80 earbuds, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Despite the hype, these earbuds just aren't worth the price.

The biggest issue I face is with frequency interruptions in crowded places. Whether I'm commuting or walking through a busy street, the audio keeps cutting in and out. It's frustrating and makes the earbuds almost unusable in environments where I'd expect them to perform well.

Considering the price point, I expected a lot more from Technics. The battery life is average, and the EQ options are limited. I've tried adjusting the settings, but nothing seems to make a significant difference.

If you're looking for earbuds that can handle crowded areas without issues, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. The Technics AZ80 just doesn't cut it.

These are easily some of the best earbuds I have ever owned, with high quality audio, many customisable features and exceptional noise cancelling. Although these earbuds are really good, the microphone quality could be improved as well as the durability since mine stopped working after around 10 months (audio broken). Excellent earbuds overall! I lost my WF-1000XM4s and decided to do a bit of research on what was good now, instead of just getting the Sonys again. These had very good reviews, and rightfully so in some cases. Here is what I found compared to the Sonys

Pros

Cons

* There is this weird thing where you put the buds in the case and after a while it starts flashing red. This means they aren't charging. I found that this is common problem with the AZ80. So much so, Technics have a page telling you how to clean the charging contacts. Which I did but it happens again within 2-3 case placements. Never an issue with Sonys.
* Noise cancelling is OK. Great for general use, in fact. But on a plane they aren't even close to Sony. With the XM4s I could even miss PA announcements. With these, PAs and jet noise filter in a fair bit.
* Connectivity is weird at times. They support up to three devices, but I found that sometimes they won't play audio through my phone when my laptop is connected (both apple). Quite a few times I have had to disconnect from devices just to get them to work on the one I want. Sometimes they don't even try to connect at all and just play this weird tone through the buds.

Are they good buds? Yeah, overall. Especially if call quality is a big thing for you. Are they worth the same price-point as the Sony flagships? No way. They should be $100 cheaper IMO. The only thing they have over the Sonys is the mics and that appraisal is based on the XM4s. I haven't tried the mics on the XM5s (reviews I saw on the XM5 call quality were mixed - some awesome, some meh).

Overall, I would take the XM4s over the AZ80s for this money. And by extension the XM5s.

I also find the volume of technics to be much inferior that it annoys me (I'm used to high volume as I'm partially deaf. This one cannot even compare. I used my Jabra every single day and with technics I find myself not using it as much. Jabra has better design as well, and it feels more secure. I wish I stuck to my trusted Jabra.

After having serious quality issues with the Sennheiser MW4 buds not charging (and thousands of people online having the same problem), I switched to the AZ80. The sound quality on these are exceptional and much better than the MW4 at the same price. I will never go back to Sennheiser after 20 years of bying from them. If you want to be satisfied with the purchase, use LDAC sound quality priority with 900-960 kbit only and also use EQ to lower increase mids or Auto EQ settings.
