Kingston DataTraveler Exodia USB Flash Drive - 256GB

Good luck ever filling up this drive, copy speed vary from 1MB/s up to maybe 4MB/s. The fact Kingston put their name to this junk makes me not want to trust Kingston products ever again. Do not buy this stick. It is super slow uploading and downloading files and it “write protected” itself, and now it’s trash and unusable. What a waste of time and money. Had this for a while. The first one turned its toes up. Was replaced under warranty.
The replacement is forever getting corrupted.
I run linux and my usual format is ext4, occasionally use ntfs for equipment that cant read ntfs
Its also dreadfully slow
In comparison i have a toshiba 16gb stick, never a moments trouble, just a tad small Had this for a while. The first one turned its toes up. Was replaced under warranty.

I purchased three of these drives, two for friends and one for myself. After a year of intermittent use for media playback on a smart TV, my drive went into write-protected read-only mode. I worked through all the possible methods to remove the write protection in Windows without success, which indicates that the drive is experiencing a flash storage failure and has engaged a firmware lock to prevent any new writes.

In the end I suppose it either didn't enjoy the heat from the sustained reads playing back media, or I just lost the silicon lottery with my drive's Flash memory chip. I'd just call it an overall poor experience, considering I have much older drives which haven't failed on me yet. Although the warranty is only 12 months, any reasonable buyer would expect it to last longer. If it were a more expensive item I'd be inclined to go full Karen mode and invoke the CGA clause concerning durability for a reasonable amount of time. As it is, I'll likely just buy a replacement.

I thought surely these would be ok because they are a "good brand", but their performance sucks. My Sandisk USB drive, similar price gets 136MB/62MB read/write per second (sequential), this piece of junk only manages 98MB/8MB read/write. You read that right, 8 measly megabytes a second write. To copy 128GB onto this drive would take nearly 5 hours. I bought 7 of these, hopefully I can refund the 5 I hadn't opened yet and exchange for something not so useless.

this usb is perfect for almost any task i use mine for a portable OS and it works really well, i highly recommend also because of the build quality it feels nice and premium. The sweet spot right now for USB thumb drives. case is good quaklity, lid fits well. I also puchased a USB-C version, copy speed to my eye seems similar. Avoid the fakes. Reccomended.
