Xiaomi Smart Home Wireless Switch Zigbee (Required to work with Mi Smart Home Hub)

Got this for use with my Home Assistant installation. Works perfectly fine with a Conbee II USB Zigbee adapter and batteries last long enough that I don't have to worry about them.

Great for when you have kids who keep messing with the Google Assistant and/or manually switching off devices that will reset if turned off and on again too quickly! (Very specific use case! :)) I have also used one as a doorbell for my apartment, when pressed a chime plays on my Google Speakers.

Tip! If you're using home assistant, setup an automation to notify your phone once a week of any devices where the battery has dropped below 5%. Got this for use with my Home Assistant installation. While you do need to have the Mi Smart Home Hub for this to work it syncs up with the app no problem and is customizable. I currently have it so a short press toggles on and off a smart bulb for a night light and a long press toggles on and off a Xiaomi Smart fan. The potential is only limited by your imagination. So out of the box, the unit does nothing on its own. You need to have the separately available home hub to pair the switch with. This in itself is a task, as there is a tiny reset hole you use a paperclip/pin/sim-card pick to click a reset button in until a light starts flashing. the problem comes when you try and do this without activating the main switch at the same time, as that interferes with the process. Its been long sessions mining through the app finding where i could add a "toggle light state" reaction to clicking the button, then the same long sessions trying to reproduce the action for another switch. documentation on this is garbage, and out of date. Next time I do it (I purchased 4 of these and 2 IR sensors at the same time) I'll write down explicit instructions and then update this review with them.

Lastly i find i cant use the same action on each tap, toggle makes sense, its a single click, however the 2 lights in my sons room almost deliberately get out of sync now and clicking the button switches the lighting in the room like a police light. One light turns on for about 5 seconds then turns off. This would seem like an auto off, however if i di it again it will toggle to the new desired state, and then return to the last after that time period. so its not a simple issue. I suspect it will be related to me not setting up the mysterious "scene" correctly. Because documentation. Or lack thereof.

Is a nice product, decent click, feels sturdy, about the diameter of an Oreo cookie (from the pictures i was dreading getting a coffee coaster sized thing) and has adhesive tape on the back of it so installation is fine. also includes a spare sticky pad.
