Academy - 1/35 - German Jagdpanzer AUSF G1
The Jagdpanther was a German World War II tank destroyer. The first prototypes of the vehicle were created in 1943, and serial production continued from 1944 to 1945, ending with a total of 392 units produced. The Jagdpanther was powered by a 700hp Maybach HL 230 P30 engine and armed with a formidable 88mm PaK 43 L/71 gun along with a 7.92mm MG34 machine gun.
The Jagdpanther was developed in response to a demand announced by the German Army in August 1942 for a new, powerful tank destroyer. The project saw collaboration between Krupp and Daimler-Benz, which resulted in a design based on the chassis of the Panther tank (PzKpfw V). The new vehicle was armed with a gun capable of destroying any Allied tank of the time and featured well-sloped armor, especially on the front, offering excellent protection.
Despite its battlefield strength, the Jagdpanther suffered from production drawbacks. The vehicle's complicated manufacturing process and high unit costs significantly slowed down serial output, which limited its availability on the front lines.
The Jagdpanther made its combat debut in the summer of 1944 during the Normandy campaign. It later fought against the Western Allies in France and played a role in the Ardennes Offensive at the end of 1944 and early 1945. On the Eastern Front, it appeared in the fall of 1944, where it effectively engaged Soviet tanks, including the T-34 and the heavy IS-2. After World War II, Jagdpanther served in the French army until the 1960s!
