Once I managed to get past an annoying *hurdle, the rest of the process went smoothly. The new RAM passed both the BIOS check and the standard extended memory diagnostics. There were no compatibility concerns, and it enabled the dual-channel mode. While I was initially considering Crucial or Kingston (which are also good brands), I ended up choosing this HR brand only because it went on clearance sale, making it the cheapest option.

(1) review the manufacturer's compatibility specs before purchasing (e.g. speed, capacity, and DDR type).
