ASUS ROG Strix XG27UCDMG 27" 4K UHD 240Hz OLED Gaming Monitor

This monitor took me by storm. I was expecting something amazing but somehow it is more than amazing I can’t even express how stunning this monitor is. I’m so blown away by this, I never ever write reviews but it felt wrong not to leave one here. I still say “woah” every 5 minutes whenever I’m playing a game or watching something. I love this monitor, absolute end game monitor for me. This monitor took me by storm. I hadn't used a 27-inch 4K OLED glossy panel since the days of the AW3423DWF several years ago, and I was genuinely amazed.

Unlike the early first-generation Alienware QD-OLEDs, this monitor caused zero eye strain for me. Whenever I watched 4K videos on it, the image quality was so impressive that it felt like putting eye drops into dry eyes and suddenly having everything become crystal clear.

I know 32-inch monitors are very popular these days, but for people who want a balance of stunning visual quality and competitive FPS gaming, I honestly think this size and this level of image quality are hard to beat. Lastly, I was also impressed by ASUS's software. It offers a wide range of color settings that allow you to fine-tune the image to match your personal preferences, and I was pleasantly surprised that every picture mode can also be adjusted to use the sRGB color space.

After these days gaming it is fabulous.

The last couly years, I've had one thing on my mind... update my monitor with the OG 4k OLED. Was it worth the wait? Is it much better than my current curved Samsung 36" widescreen 2.5k 100hz? Are OLED monitors that good? and, of course, the dreaded post-purchase "what have I done, I should have waited or not spent that money".

Well, honestly... I'm a few hours in, and I have NO doubts OR regrets at all (!!!!) That says a lot to me.

Pros:
- Physically well constructed, doesn't feel cheap at all
- Asus Rog monitor app is quality with plenty of options (hadn't known about that till I purchased)
- Comes with heaps of high-quality cables, much more than I thought I'd get
- When I purchased click & collect from the Dunedin branch (shout-out), staff were suuuper friendly and assisted in getting me all amped up
- Adjusting the monitor is S Tier, I never knew
- Cable management with the stand, big fan, love it.

Cons:
- Like anything, time will tell how epic this is
- Computer was a bit (what the heck is going on) when I plugged it in. Few tweaks via the NVIDIA app on some games and we on.
- I wish I had bought it earlier

Coming from a Coolermaster 4k and before that a LG 4k I wasn't expecting such a leap up in brightness - super clear, super bright, perfect for gaming - I use it with a PS5 Pro primarily and occasionally on PC. Glossy screen does mean you get some reflections but that's what curtains are for, and the picture is worth it. The semi-gloss coating is perfect, way better than the matte finish on my Samsung OLED, which dulled the “OLED pop.” This one still controls reflections while letting the colors truly shine. It can be a bit harder to see on bright days, but closing the curtains fixes that easily.

HDR actually feels legit here not just a marketing term. It’s not as bright as my LG C3 TV, but the QD-OLED panel more than makes up for it with stunning saturation, color depth, and overall vibrancy.

Don’t stress about Dolby Vision, it doesn’t matter for gaming. The built-in OLED Care features are also great for peace of mind and go beyond what most competitors offer.

If I had to nitpick, the Neo Proximity sensor didn’t always detect me when sitting still in front of it, but you can easily disable it. Also worth noting, the pixel-cleaning cycle that runs after shutdown (flashing RGB colors) can be mildly annoying, but it’s quick and doesn’t detract from the overall experience.

4k, HDR, everything works nice! I use HDR mode on Windows 11 and never disable it, just set brightness for SDR to 33 and it is good to go. The RoG logo lighting can be disabled. I didn't find the Neo Proximity sensor useful for me as my system turns off the monitor after 10 minutes of inactivity. Overall, the monitor is great for games and movies! 4k, HDR, everything works nice! I use HDR mode on Windows 11 and never disable it, just set brightness for SDR to 33 and it is good to go. 4K at 27" is ridiculous - its the most crisp & sharpest image quality I've ever seen. Add in an incredible HDR implementation and it transforms games; I've had to just stop and admire the view and detail in Cyberpunk and Horizon Zero Dawn multiple times.

Everything good about an OLED monitor is here too. Awesome response time, amazing colour, contrast & blacks. This is a really well reviewed monitor and I can see why. Easily the best mix of price versus performance (and no you don't need Display Port 2.1, 1.4 is perfectly fine).
