Having sun shine on the lenses on the VR headset can damage the LCD panels, much like a magnifying glass sets fire to things in the sun light! While it's not always an issue, placing the lens potector in the headset means you don't have to worry about light damage. It also means the lens is less liekly to be physically damaged form storage or moving the headset, especially if the kids are putting it away or geting it out. It nicely covers the lens and adds another layer of protection for accidents.
