ASUS RT-BE92U (BE9700) Tri-Band WiFi 7 Extendable Router

I purchased the router to (1) get wifi 7 (2) improve my security.
Implementation using the phone app worked very well, nice UI.
Apart from a couple of moments with our robot vacumn cleaner, the wifi is working well and is stable

Not much to say about this tbh - I purchased because it had VPN ability, and some adblocking DNS to try. The router itself is super fast, and easy to setup. I also purchased some little node thingies to extend the range with so now it covers my entire house with WIFI (the nodes are hooked in using ethernet cable run through the roof).

Worth getting just for the ability to block advertising on most sites by default. Some aren't blocked, like youttube unfortunately. And it's a bit of shock to get blasted by advertising on sites once you leave your house. Not much to say about this tbh - I purchased because it had VPN ability, and some adblocking DNS to try. I bought two units to create mesh network at home and wireless interface randomly restarts very frequently on both routers. Google search shows that many people has same issues, I retured the product for a different model which works fine. Unit was found to be faulty — power disconnects even with the slightest movement due to a flaw in the power port.

Went to the Penrose branch for a replacement. Out of the two replacements offered, one had the exact same issue.
Both of them seemed to be open-box items, but the staff insisted they were brand new.
One was missing a LAN cable, and both replacement units were missing the plastic covers on the components — yet the staff continued to argue they were brand new.

However, after checking the PB Tech site, I found they had one open-box and one ex-demo unit listed. So yes, explain that to me again, please.

Ended up going to the Manukau store, where I was offered a brand new unit in an unopened box with full plastic wrapping — and yes, we all know that's what a brand new unit looks like.
Obviously, the guy at Penrose had a different definition of “brand new.”

However, upon testing, we found that this unit had the exact same issue. I have a strong feeling this is a batch issue.
If you're considering buying this router, check the cable connection and maybe wiggle it a few times to make sure the unit isn't faulty.
In the end, I was issued a store credit, as the PB Tech Manukau staff agreed there was no point opening the last one in stock, it was from the same batch and likely to have the same issue.

It’s generally a good router, but I’d advise you to wait for the next shipment if you're planning to buy one. A 75% fault rate is far too excessive to overlook.

I would not recommended this product. The router is unreliable. It restarts and crashes randomly causing unreliable internet connection, not expected from a router at the price range. It is an awful and frustrating experience when it happens multiple times a day. It is difficult to determine what is causing the crash. I noticed it happens during CPU hog. There are reported issues in forums and looking at community posts, it has historically been plagued with thermal problems due to firmware. I would not recommended this product. Great Router that is fast, far superior to my previous router. I only have issue with how much time and effort is needed to get the software loaded, not very straightforward. Once you have the software working setup is pretty easy and the router will work fine as long as you update the firmware to the latest version right at the start. Asus app is quite user friendly setup in a few minutes with my spark account.
I positioned the router relatively in the mid point of a 5 bedroom 3 storey house, almost every corner covered with good signal.
Max wireless download and upload archived with my mobile phone were 940/550mpbs on my 1gbp fibre plan.
Running 25 devices of PCs, iPads, tvs, phones and security cameras so far no drop outs, so much more reliable compared to previous wifi 5 router.
Features like parental control and Internet security are very helpful.
Simply best tech purchase so far I have this year! Asus app is quite user friendly setup in a few minutes with my spark account.
