Works pretty much out of the box and I really like the auto scan feature. The quality is excellent. It's very good value and easy to use. Definitely recommend this. I needed a stand alone scanner that could run straight off the usb power of my laptop while out and about. This works fine. I did have a problem getting full advertised resolution out of it but the tech help at Canon sorted it for me straight away. The Canon LiDE 400 scanner was straight-forward to set up, including the software and scans documents nicely.

We just needed a scanner, did not want a printer, to save (among other things) magazine articles of places we would like to visit - when we are allowed again!
I set it up yesterday, just needs the USB cable, no external power, and used it for about an hour. Took about 4 or 5 seconds per coloured page to scan. It was easy to install following the website instructions and simple to use.
I didn't realise I had to place the page top to the front on the plate - the first file was upside down when I opened it! My fault for not reading every scrap of instructions.

The pictures and print are beautifully clear. Once you finished the scan and click on 'exit', it opens the file and you save it to your computer from there.
It saves files as you have named them but also adds the date and a number to each filename. I'm not sure if I can circumvent that but it's easy enough to delete that part of the filename as I allocate it to the appropriate region. I found it easiest to save them to one main folder and allocate after, otherwise I was forever searching/typing in new destinations.

I've been using this scanner for several weeks. There was some difficulty at first at setting up the scanner, but I eventually resolved this by myself. I have an on-going issue remembering which way the scanner thinks is the top, but this is obviously my problem. The scanner automatically chooses to put scans which are mainly text into .pdf files that I do not like and so I use a more manual procedure to keep things in picture files. Pleasantly surprised by the capabilities of this scanner, given its price. It automatically scans / prints to the default printer, scans to *.jpg or and handles multiple scans to a single PDF file.
