Tried this cable with a macbook pro and then an HP windows laptop and it didn't work with either.

This is one of my best upgrades coming from HDMI, I always had issues with my PC going black, but when I purchased these, I never got that problem again!. I recently purchased this DisplayPort to USB-C 1.4 cable from PB Tech for my Samsung LC49G95T monitor. Right away, I noticed a sharper image and higher resolution compared to my previous cable—proof that this cable does exactly what it claims.

Unfortunately, a couple of weeks later, my monitor developed a fault, which appears unrelated to the cable. Still, during the time it worked, the cable delivered steady performance without any signal dropouts. The 1-meter length, however, turned out to be too short for my setup, so a bit of guidance on choosing an appropriate length would have been nice.

I also discovered that if you want the full 240Hz refresh rate this monitor supports, you actually need a 2.1 cable. The 1.4 standard can’t quite reach 240Hz. Aside from those factors, this is a solid, reliable option for anyone who only needs up to 1.4 specs and can manage with the 1m length. I’d recommend it overall, especially if you don’t require the highest possible refresh rate—and be sure to measure your setup carefully first!

I am using 2560 × 1080 resolution monitor with 200 hz. using HDMI cable, it couldn't detect higher than 160 hz, but using this cable, I can play with 200 hz and 1 ms response time. The MacBook pro could only drive one monitor at a time via display port on my dell monitors and dell usb docking station. Switching to using these cables sorted it out. This cable did not work for my laptop as USB C is a broad term and not inclusive for every machine or device. It did work well on another test device, and I give it a four star for that goodness. I know it's probably obvious, but just to confirm: this cable will not work the other way around (displayport plugged in to a PC, USB-C plugged into a thunderbolt display like the Apple Studio display). I'm sure it's perfectly great as a way to drive a monitor from a MacBook or Surface or any other portable computer with USB-C output.
