Was going to buy a generic low cost disk but got excellent advise about using robust drives for 24x7 use that a NAS obviously needs.

Only in use a short time but using a pair of these drives to save my large hobby files and work. Bought this drive to replace the dead NAS drive in my Synology NAS, IT works fine. It is a little noisy when it is reading and writing data compared to the previous drive that was in it. it is worth the purchase. Probably the first thing I noticed was it can be noisy when dealing with the data but other than that it works great and has enough space for everything I need it to store all programs loading and working from the drive works well. It took a while to sort out the new configuration for the NAS because I wanted the additional space and did not need it as a RAID drive.

...when they work. I've always read that a good 5% of drives come off the production lines broken; my first purchase of one of these drives proved that. Packed and shipped perfectly, but the drive heads seemed "stuck" and the drive didn't spin up at all. PB accepted a RMA request and replaced the drive within 20 minutes of me lodging the claim, and sent me a new one within a few days.

Great service, and the replacement drive runs fantastic. I wasn't expecting to get sustained read\write speeds of 250megs a second, three times faster than the old 1TB platter drives in my system. However because this is a NAS drive it is quite noisy. Nothing alarming, but it is probably designed to be kept in a separate room than your TV or bedroom. Might be the consequence of having so many platters and read heads stuffed in there - a lot of reviews mention the same thing.

I bought 2 of these after doing research for the best drives to go into the new NAS I was buying from PBTech. They set up and are working seamlessly.
