WD My Passport 4TB Portable External HDD - Red

Simply plug it in and it's ready to go. I trust Western Digital more than any other hard drive manufacturer - the only thing wrong with my other WD drives (that caused me to purchase this one) is that they're "too small" - they're still working, but I needed more space. Now I have a 1TB, a 2TB and this 4TB - all WD drives. They'll probably still be running when I graduate to a Petabyte drive... Simply plug it in and it's ready to go. Apparently by initially formatting this thing on a PC, I've enabled it to work on both PCs and Macs. And since it definitely works on my Mac, and since it *was* in fact initiated on a PC, I guess that means it works.

!YaY! 2 TB of yummalicious data all for me. And any PC owners I might happen to know.

I didn't want to give it 5 stars because it's basically just a humble external hard drive which really just isn't that exciting, but since it works and there's nothing wrong with it Ima treat it like a grown up. For context I haven't touched a Seagate in over a decade, but needed some media storage and decided to buy two FireCuda drives and this Western Digital. To be fair, I knew not to expect much of the Seagates, but also expected things to have improved over the past 10 years. Marketed as gaming storage drives, perfect, storage, don't need performance, just need a place to store data, right? Wrong. The write speed of the FireCuda drives were god awful. Running winsat, I conducted a test of 2x 7 year old MyBook drives resulting in 120MB/s read and write. Next I tested the first FireCuda drive... 100MB/s read, 5.5MB/s write. 5.5MB/s!! I've had similar WD Elements drives for many years - very happy with their reliability and value and quietness; plus speed isn't too bad either! So good all round.
