I upgraded to this from a Chromecast 4k with TV ( or whatever it was called). I wouldn't have upgrade at the regular price. I bought it on special. I gifted the replaced unit to a family member. I like it! It is snappier to use than the the earlier unit. I particularly notice this when using the on-screen keyboard. I am now running the Kodi app on it and this is working well. Previously I was using a Vero 4K+ from osmc.tv for Kodi. It's nice having everything in the one box. One step backwards is audio. The Chromecast with TV would pass through to the amp Dolby Digital TrueHD and other high resolution lossless audio streams. You don't get no sound, just not 7.1. I was also interested in the Thread gateway. I have one Tapo smart power socket hooked up just as an experiment. Ican turn it on/off on the tv. You can't see any other data from the socket.

This is a good quality streaming box with good performance, nice and smooth and easy to use. However the RRP is a bit too much and not such good value so look out for a sale or consider other units like the MiBox. I got mine on sale and then a few days later PB put the price down even more, but you can ask for the credit back within 7 days which they did with no issues at all, so thank you PB! Bought to replace a console that had been relegated to a streaming/media device until it's hard drive gave up the ghost.
Faster to boot, opens apps quickly, navigation is straightforward and convenient.

App only mode does a good job of getting rid of all the unnecessary nonsense, and the microphone in the remote can be entirely deactivated in settings.

My hi-def Chrome cast was running real hot and starting cutting out. So replaced with Google TV.
It comes with its own remote so it makes it easier for the family to use and share.

Works great - occasionally there will be some hiccups where it won't pick turn on the TV, but 95%+ of the time it does just fine. Much snappier than the OS of the cheap 4k Philips TV purchased from PB tech 2 years ago. Plex playback is now smooth whereas I'd previously need to re-encode a lot of shows to lower quality as playback was stuttery.
