Brother QL700 Label Printer

Excellent little label printer. It's a little old now and has been superceded by newer models, but it works great. I love that it has a built-in cutter so you can buy a continuous roll, print off a big batch of labels, and end up with a pile of perfectly cut individual labels, rather than having to cut them up yourself. The print quality is decent and it prints really quickly. The software you need to use is really dated at this point (seriously, looks like a Windows 98-era application), but it's simple, pretty easy to use, and does what you need it to do. The software you need to use is really dated at this point (seriously, looks like a Windows 98-era application), but it's simple, pretty easy to use, and does what you need it to do. It's a thermal printer so you never need to buy more ink - the label rolls are pretty expensive, but you can pick up compatible ones for cheap on AliExpress. I use this printer mostly to print labels for my homebrew beer, and it does a great job. For the price, it's hard not to recommend this printer.

One thing to note that I wish I'd been told when I bought it: if you're using Windows 10, you need to hold down the "editor lite" button (to the left of the power button) for a few seconds until the LED turns off, otherwise Windows will not recognise it as a printer. You only have to do that once, not every time you turn the printer on. Once you do that and install the drivers from the Brother website, it works perfectly.

I almost didn't buy this product because of the 1 star review saying it doesn't work well with Windows 10. I called brothers free NZ technical support line and they assured me it works fine with Windows 10 and that if I had any trouble setting it up I could call them and they would walk me through it over the phone. When I got the product, to my surprise it simply worked easily and immediately upon plugging it in - I didn't need to call the helpline at all =) I almost didn't buy this product because of the 1 star review saying it doesn't work well with Windows 10. You failed to mention there is a win10 conflict issue with this label printer. It can be fixed I gather but only after hours of fiddling and googling. Setting up the software isn't the easiest unless you have a cd player. Bought this as it was cheap and reviews were good but so far had a few issues using it.. I'm not a techy person so maybe that's why. When I finally managed to print a label it printed the text far too small, had to re print it several times to finally get it right. Not sure I'd re purchase or recommend it.. First time using a consumer grade plug in label maker (previously had hand held or heavy duty commercial bulking units)

Very small foot print
Quick and easy to set up
Software is basic to use with emoughbfeatures to achieve good quality results
Various media sizes (I use a max width continuous role for "to" addresses and labeling boxes/cartons/bins in storage and a couple of specific label sizes. 1 for return address labels printed in bulk and the inherent firngwneral labeling of files etc)
Labels can be set to cut off after each unit or a continuous run (ideal for return address labels)

The printer itself is now working all fine and it is so handy to be able to quickly print labels. The built in cutter is great.

The only downside is that I had a lot of problems getting it to work on my Mac (MacOS). I searched up and found access to an older driver that worked but the software that was stored on the printer (as a pen drive) did not work. I suspect it is a very old model based on the dates of the files on the printer so if you are using MacOS it may pay to get a later model.
