Academy - 1/144 - USMC F/A-18 Red Devils

The McDonnell-Douglas / Northrop F/A-18 Hornet is a carrier-capable fighter and attack aircraft designed for all-weather operations. The origins of the F/A-18 date back to 1974 with the development of the F-17 prototype, which caught the attention of the U.S. Navy that same year. A contract for the serial production of the aircraft was signed in 1976, and to speed up development, Northrop partnered with McDonnell-Douglas. As a result of this collaboration, the prototype had its first test flight on November 18, 1978, and by the following year, it successfully completed carrier landings.

Since 1982, the F/A-18 began delivery to operational units, powered by General Electric F404-GE-402 engines. The aircraft was produced in several versions, beginning with the F/A-18A (single-seat fighter) and F/A-18B (two-seat trainer). These early variants quickly attracted international interest, with Spain, Canada, and Australia placing foreign orders.

In 1987, the F/A-18C version was introduced, designed to be compatible with AMRAAM missiles, significantly enhancing its combat capabilities. A year later, the F/A-18D, a two-seat, all-weather variant, entered service, capable of operating as both a fighter and an attack aircraft. A specialized reconnaissance version, the R/F-18D, was also developed from this platform.

The most advanced variants of the Hornet are the so-called Super Hornets - the F/A-18E and F/A-18F. These are heavily modified versions of the F/A-18D, featuring a longer fuselage, wider wingspan, and increased wing surface area. They are powered by General Electric F414 engines and boast a completely overhauled and expanded avionics suite. The Super Hornets were first unveiled in 1995. Additionally, the EA-18G Growler, an advanced electronic warfare aircraft, was developed from the F-18 airframe.

All versions of the F/A-18 Hornet have earned a strong reputation among pilots for their low failure rate, ease of maintenance, and excellent flight characteristics. The aircraft saw combat in notable missions such as the U.S. operation against Libya in 1986 and Operation Desert Storm in 1991, further cementing its legacy as one of the most reliable and versatile aircraft in modern military aviation.

To exchange a product, goods must be sealed / unopened, with packaging in original condition, and accompanied by a valid receipt dated no more than 7 calendar days from when you request an exchange.

If there is not a suitable product that can be exchanged for your returned item you will be offered a credit on your account or gift card based on the value paid at the time of purchase.
