The Bell 212 (also known as the Twin Two-Twelve) is a two-blade, medium helicopter that first flew in 1968. The 212 was marketed to civilian operators and has up to a 15-seat capacity, with one pilot and fourteen passengers. In cargo-carrying configuration the 212 has an internal capacity of 220 ft3 (6.23 m3). An external load of up to 5,000 lb (2,268 kg) can be carried.
The Military Version of the Bell 212, the UH-1N has been in service world-wide for 40 years as a light twin engine helicopter for Transport, Close Air Support and Search and Rescue or Air Ambulance missions. The US Armed Forces bought 294 units. Built under license by Agusta the Bell 212 is also very successful in civilian aviation. Since 2007 the German Ministry of the Interior employs two orange painted 212's in the role of rescue helicopter in Northern Germany.
