Brother QL700 Label Printer

Excellent little label printer. It's a little old now and has been superceded by newer models, but it works great. I love that it has a built-in cutter so you can buy a continuous roll, print off a big batch of labels, and end up with a pile of perfectly cut individual labels, rather than having to cut them up yourself. The print quality is decent and it prints really quickly. The software you need to use is really dated at this point (seriously, looks like a Windows 98-era application), but it's simple, pretty easy to use, and does what you need it to do. I use this printer mostly to print labels for my homebrew beer, and it does a great job. For the price, it's hard not to recommend this printer.

One thing to note that I wish I'd been told when I bought it: if you're using Windows 10, you need to hold down the "editor lite" button (to the left of the power button) for a few seconds until the LED turns off, otherwise Windows will not recognise it as a printer. You only have to do that once, not every time you turn the printer on. Once you do that and install the drivers from the Brother website, it works perfectly.

I almost didn't buy this product because of the 1 star review saying it doesn't work well with Windows 10. I called brothers free NZ technical support line and they assured me it works fine with Windows 10 and that if I had any trouble setting it up I could call them and they would walk me through it over the phone. When I got the product, to my surprise it simply worked easily and immediately upon plugging it in - I didn't need to call the helpline at all =) I almost didn't buy this product because of the 1 star review saying it doesn't work well with Windows 10. Not sure if I got lucky or what but unlike these other reviews I plugged mine into my win10 machine and it showed up instantly with a prompt to open the software and start designing labels, no need to press any buttons or install drivers, literally just plug and play. Exceptional print quality too for such a cheap thermal printer. 6/5 for quality, ease of use, and functionality.
