Looks like an expensive item for something so small, but there are quite sophisticated data controllers built in to adapt from the M.2 connectors to USB and the casing itself is sturdy metal with a nice quality feel. A couple of small screws allow access to seat the SSD in a slot inside the casing. I used this to connect an M.2 SSD to my laptop to clone and replace the primary drive, then put the old, smaller drive into the casing to use as an external drive. My laptops SSD crashed , so I brought this and I was able to extract important data. I initially I thought it didn’t work, but discovered that to be able to access the SSD you need to use the windows disc tools and allocate an it a drive letter (d or e or another letter) . I had to replace my Dell pc due to a motherboard problem and couldn't install the system M.2 ssd from it in to the new pc (from PB Tech), as they cheaped out by using a sata drive for the boot drive SSD not a pci NVE drive. This adapter let me plug the ssd in to the USB to copy all my personal files on to the new system. It was simple to install the b-keyed M.2 ssd in to the unit's pcb then the case. Works exactly as you expect. So for the money I paid for it was trivial compared to the stress of trying to recover missing files that weren't in my nas archives. Being based on the M.2 platform, this enclosure is much more compact than the pocket HDDs we're used to. It's limited only by the USB3.0 bus, but that's a story for another time.
