Yes, it looks cheap and needs to have the adjustment wheel on full to discover working cables, however it works well and it's a lifesaver when you need to find the right cable in a busy network cabinet! Needed a tool to trace pre-wired cables around the house and to check my own cables had been wired correctly, and this did both perfectly (including showing me when I wired one of the cable backwards..).
I was able to trace both ethernet cables and 4-wire security cable thanks to the crocodile clip attachment. Simply strip any of the wires back a little, attach to the transmiiter, and then go hunting with the receiver.

My only negatives would be thhat both units feel pretty cheap - very light with loose plastic buttons that rattle and the rubber sleeve around the transmitter is barely holding on, but so far no issues with actually using it.

Because of the placement of the swtich on the receiver, you can turn it on accidentally if you're not careful when putting it back in its pouch.
