The 8Ware BD-400 dongle worked fine with my Bluetooth keyboard. But movements of both the mice I tested, (one Logitech, one Microsoft) were very jerky. The distance from the mouse to the dongle was about 1.4 metres, well within the spec. I had to return the dongle.

Instead, I now have a USB2.0 Bluetooth V4.0 Class 2 Dongle obtained from Jaycar. (No brand name is given for that dongle on their web site, but its packaging says Digitech.) That performed much better but still not perfectly with the mouse at the same distance to the dongle. With the help of a USB hub, I moved the dongle much closer to the mouse, about 0.4 metres. So perhaps the 8Ware dongle supplied by PB will work fine with a mouse if it is positioned closer to the mouse than I tested.

I'm now wondering if all these tiny modern dongles have similar range problems. All the models I read customer reviews of had at least one person complaining about mouse usage. Perhaps reviewers who did not report problems were using their dongles at very close range. My big old Bluetooth 1.2 dongle, which had an aerial, worked perfectly with mice even at about 10 metres! Sadly, I had to replace it because it did not work with my new Bluetooth keyboard.
