Couldn't find an apple usb superdrive for less than $129, this does the same job for much cheaper. It is a little flimsy but as I will not use it very often this is not a problem. Still seem to have a few CDs and DVDs around even though I have sold my old computer which had a superdrive. I haven't tried writing a DVD on this, so I can't comment on that. I used it to load some old programs onto my new laptop. Some can't be downloaded now, so I needed a dvd drive. I plugged it in to a usb port and it worked straight away - if it loaded its own driver onto my laptop it was instant because it just worked the moment I attached it. No fuss, just got on with its job. Only bought it a month ago, and it was cheaper than I expected. I've played a dvd movie through it - no problems. Doesn't seem to play blu-ray dvds though. The tray on this DVD drive feels very flimsy and looks poorly designed as it isn't smooth. It honestly feels like it will wear out quickly. However the rest of the drive feels fine. It works perfectly as a DVD drive. Considering I hardly use it I thought this budget drive would do the job and so far it does. I'd say if you need to use the DVD drive a lot then go for something a bit better quality, but if like me you need to read the occasional DVD or CD then this is perfectly adequate.
