Seagate IronWolf 4TB NAS Internal HDD

I got this to put in my NAS, which could have equally taken an SSD but it's half the price and I'm still a bit unconvinced about the long-term integrity of SSDs after prolonged power loss. This unit was cheaper than the 4Gb Ironwolf Pro but has more cache. The spindle speed is slower at 5400rpm instead of 7200rpm that comes with the Pro so the transfer rate is slower, but only marginally. If speed is your thing instead of $$$ then go for the SSD, just make sure your LAN can match it. Bought this drive for my desktop as a general data drive. I also have a NAS for backups of said Data drive.

Purchased this to replace an SMR drive, unaware of the difference originally and the reason for the large cost difference. This drive is a lot more expensive, but so much faster in operation, particularly when getting full. I turned three of these into a RAID5 array so it can survive a disk failure. Everything works well, and I'm pleasantly surprised with how fast they are. Using 5 of these in a DS1522+ NAS. Easy plug-in installation and the HDD are very quiet when operating. Good buying for the capacity, especially when on sale. Fully recommend. My smaller Ironwolf has been working without issue for over 4 years. This one was bought when a large Toshiba NAS drive I'd ordered from elsewhere arrived faulty. They were taking so long (elsewhere) that I bought this Ironwolf as I needed it for extra storage. Worked perfectly from the start, as it should. Has read and write times around 230 MB/s My smaller Ironwolf has been working without issue for over 4 years. Have 2 of these mirrored for storage, they have excellent performance for read and write. If they've gone to sleep they take a fair while to spin up though.
