Seagate Expansion 4TB Portable External HDD - Black

I was thrilled with the size of this compared to my last (6yr+) Seagate external drive which died recently. Very easy to reformat and partition to keep Time Machine and archived files on the one back-up drive. Easy USB-C plug and play connection. As long as it goes the distance, I will be more than happy. I bought this to store my photos on as a back up. So I copied thousands of files and then hid the device out in the woods. I'll let you know if the photos are still there in 10 years when I check. I'm using this for Linux backups using rsync. It's an SMR drive (you can google that). I think all external drives are likely to be SMR these days. Being SMR, I have to be careful not to write so fast that it exceeds it's write cache buffer. If the cache is exceeded, the write speed drops dramatically because it can longer accumate data to write overlapping shingles. With the rsync utility, I can tell the utility to write at a maximum of 30 MBytes per second - which the drive seems able to sustain. No issues, no hassles, it just worked like other external drives. This was a quick and easy solution for my laptops local storage issue. Its plug and use like any USB drive. Faster transfer rate too. Highly recommend. This compact 2Tb HDD is a great backup drive for storing and files you may want to keep and easily transfer them to another computer you may have through the USB cable.
I have bought 2 of these HDD’s and use them to backup my movies and MPEG’s.
