Purchased one of these for my frustrated father who knew little about WiFi but knew his wasn't working as it should. Turned off WiFi on his ISP-supplied router, grabbed a PoE injector and installed this IW in a central point of the house where an existing data port was located.
Looks slick and does it's job really well. Great coverage across a two level house. No more complaints from dad too. An excellent product all-round.
Negative reviews on this would likely find their structured cabling is most likely to blame rather than the device it self! Bought as a replacement for my Dream Router wifi when I upgraded to a UDM Pro. It's definitely not as powerful and you do need to feed a cable through the wall as the socket is directly facing the back unlike the angled ones on the circular APs. However the addition of a good switch and the fact that the Unifi software rocks mean it's a worthwhile addition if you want to wall mount it and don't want the circular look of the regular APs. I installed this on the wall in a central room in the house but unless you are in the same room the Wifi performance is terrible, dropping out and otherwise fluctuating performance. By contrast My TP-Link Deco AX3000 works perfectly over the whole house even though it is in a cupboard right at one end. I tried doing a channel scan and disabling band steering (thinking maybe it is forcing clients onto 5GHz) but performance remained very poor. Now I have the wireless disabled and use it only as a 4-port network switch.
