Raspberry Pi 5 product brief

Your questions answered.

 - Will older versions of Raspberry Pi OS work with Raspberry Pi 5?
You will need the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS, Bookworm, for your Raspberry Pi 5. Bookworm will launch in mid-October.

 - Will my Raspberry Pi 4 power supply work with Raspberry Pi 5?
Raspberry Pi 5 is a higher-performance computer than Raspberry Pi 4, and you may have problems using an under-powered supply. We recommend a high-quality 5V 5A USB-C power supply, such as the new Raspberry Pi 27W USB-C Power Supply. (White/Black)

 - Will my Raspberry Pi 5 fit my Raspberry Pi 4 case?
Raspberry Pi 5 won't fit the Raspberry Pi 4 Case. We recommend the Raspberry Pi Case for Raspberry Pi 5, designed to help you get the most out of our newest computer. (Red / White, Black / Grey)

 - Does Raspberry Pi 5 need active cooling?
Raspberry Pi 5 is faster and more powerful than prior-generation Raspberry Pis, and like most general-purpose computers, it will perform best with active cooling. The Raspberry Pi Case for Raspberry Pi 5, with its integrated fan, is one way to provide this. (Official Active Cooler)

Good performance improvement

Memory Size: 4GB | Case Colour: N/A | PSU Colour: N/A

Significant performance improvement over Pi 4.
4GB option running Ubuntu desktop with dual monitors works pretty well.

A great set up

Memory Size: 4GB | Case Colour: N/A | PSU Colour: N/A

The pi 5 lives up the the reviews, more responsive than the 4. Fits into the 3D case I printed that also holds a 5 inch screen. Great portable machine running at 2.4 gig. I am pleased.

A new pi is always interesting

Memory Size: 4GB | Case Colour: N/A | PSU Colour: N/A

This is a classic case of what you see is what you get. All pi's are great products, and this is no exception. Way quicker then a pi 4 but
definately needs a fan and heatsink. The official case does the job perfectly. I have yet to see if it can be used as a desktop,
but it looks promising. Probably overkill for anything else.

It is a great upgrade to the PI

Memory Size: 8GB | Case Colour: N/A | PSU Colour: N/A

The information on it say it is cooler than PI4 but it is not. Started out at 60+ on idle, the official cooler took it down to 47 idle and then I adjusted this case (because I really like it, this is my third purchase of this case) https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/SEVRBP0248/Raspberry-Pi-Case-Silver-Aluminium-Case-with-Mount to fit the PI5 by filing out the network/USB holes and fitted the fan on the outside with further filing so the fan has no obstructions and now the PI5 is happily idling at 38, which is great because I am a firm believer that cooler Equipment lasts longer.

So you can get the picture, I am real happy with my purchase.

A nice small purchase!

Memory Size: 4GB | Case Colour: N/A | PSU Colour: N/A

It's a good product, but you're going to have to use the official power supply to get it working, and because it's ARM64, most software doesn't support it, however you can use emulation like box64, box86 and/or wine.

Fast and Hot

Memory Size: 8GB | Case Colour: N/A | PSU Colour: N/A

Nice and Fast, this is a great improvement over previous models of the Pi, but it gets hot. I got the official Pi 5 case and that does a good job at keeping it cool, however I might get the Active Cooler for applications where I need the IO more accessible for shields. This runs Raspbian super fast, and I am really happy I got the 8G RAM version, as my Pi4 was 2G RAM and that was crippled in many ways because of it. Happy with my purchase.

Pi 5

Faster than the Pi 4 and have been using it as my primary computer for 3 days. Very pleased. Definitely runs hotter than previous models so make sure you get the case or active cooling. Thanks PBTech

Faster than the pi4

Memory Size: 8GB | Case Colour: N/A | PSU Colour: N/A

Once again the Pi folks have delivered a better product. This has the power and the memory at 8GB to act like a desktop for light work. Get that heat sink on so that it does not throttle down under the load. The price is not what they were a decade ago but then again neither is the power/speed. A bargain.
