Alogic UCDVI-ADP 15cm USB-C to DVI Adapter Black

I had already purchased and returned a similar-looking product (see below) from PB Tech and hoped this other one was different given its description, but despite 2560x1600 resolution support being specifically listed, this is *not* an active dual-link DVI adapter and will *not* work at that resolution. You're likely to see 1080p / 1920x1200 maximum or thereabouts; a 2560x1600 monitor may well be constrained to at best half of the panel native resolution.

Unless the description specifically says it's active (and they're usually bigger and more expensive!) then it's not going to work.

Other issues - the connector is quite stiff and the case is cheap creaky plastic. The packaging is hard to get into because of lots of small bits of tape and cardboard tabs that catch on the plastic inlay when removed, so it was quite torn up and I was necessarily apologetic trying to return the item to PB Tech, expecting at least e.g. a restocking fee but there were no such problems - customer service was definitely on point this time.

I previously tried https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/ADPCXT2004/Cruxtec-USB-C-to-DVI-Adaptor---4K--3840x2160--30Hz which does not explicitly list 2560x1600 and, indeed, did not work either. It's essentially the same product as the Alogic part reviewed here, except it's cheaper, yet has a metal, sturdy case rather than the Alogic's creaky plastic and is packaged in a simple, resealable plastic bag - much less waste. If you only need a passive adaptor for a DVI-D monitor up to around 1920x1080, then either of these adapters will *probably* work, but the Cruxtec would be by far a better choice.

Unfortunately there is nothing in PB Tech's inventory that will actually work at dual-link resolutions. I had to purchase a presumed-active adapter from Amazon US at about twice the price but it works perfectly - search for "Club3D CAC-1510". There are two, one with HDCP and one without (cheaper) which claims to be for "Apple Cinema Displays" but, actually, the Club3D part works just fine on my NEC at 2560x1600, from an M1 2021 MacBook Pro 16". If you don't need HDCP for e.g. Blu-Ray or iTunes movies or whatever, the cheaper one will be fine.

But, again, don't buy these small non-active adapters, regardless of "dual link" or other resolution indications in the marketing, if you expect to go above around 1920x1080@60fps.
