Silverstone SST-RM41-506 4U Case with Support up to SSI-CEB MBD

Would have been nicer to have a deeper case, as a modern GPU can interfere when installing a 3rd-party drive cage (without backplane) in the 3x5.25" left-hand bay. Cable management is also difficult, where a slightly deeper chassis would also have helped here. Bought for the large drive capacity for an otherwise desktop platform, and it works mostly well for this purpose. The RM41-506 4U rack case can accommodate full size or smaller ATX boards and provides for up to six external drive bays and another six internal as well as a slimline optical drive. This storage capacity is the major strength of this product along with its ability to mount into a standard 19" rack chassis. The product is well made and solid, and allows for up to seven full height expansion slots. The main concern with this chassis is its relatively limited cooling capability due to the fitting of 80 mm fans. Two are supplied mounted to the rear of the case, and a third can be bolted onto the front of the internal drive cage. It is fortunate that the power supply's extraction fan is able to be utilised inside the case on this model. Another concern is the poor quality of the optional sliding rack rails Silverstone provides for these chassis. If you are installing this in a rack then third party rails would be an option to make it easy to install and maintain.

The case is well built. There's a bit of flex if the lid isn't screwed into place, but it's solid and doesn't feel like it would break easily. I found all of the mounting points and screw holes to be accurately placed and aligned.

I assumed that 3.5" drive bays, rails, and a slimline Bluetooth drive would all be easily available when I bought this case. This proved incorrect, so I'd encourage anyone else looking at it to do your research first if you're planning to add parts specifically intended for the case.

More experienced PC builders than myself might have clever ways of working around this.

This is a great case for a home lab. Plenty of space for an ATX motherboard, ATX PSU and storage, and additional space to install caddies for future hdd expansion.

Given the price, I would have preferred better motherboard standoffs. One of mine didn't fit, and 2 or 3 had to be bent slightly to align correctly. The screws are very soft, likely aluminum, so care must be taken to not strip the threads.

I haven't bothered with purchasing the sliding rails given the terrible reviews online. I'm going to use generic L shaped rails instead.
