I'm pretty happy so far (1 month in) - this was a highly rated unit and it hasn't disappointed. The first DVD played using this drive was a an old favourite of my wife's, that she had been unable to watch due to damage (scratches). No issues, ran like a charm. The set-up was easy, price paid very competitive (especially considering the price of comparative units elsewhere), it's fairly quiet, and is portable (small and light). Unless you have been living under a rock. you have probably seen all the Tik Toks and YouTube shorts going around about using MakeMKV and Plex/Jellyfin media servers. Bought this drive to digitalize my DVD collection, and works a treat with MakeMKV and my entire collection. Great that it worked out of the box without needing to download firmware or library updates* to be able to create backups.
Gone are the days of $80 5 1/4" DVD/Bulu Ray drives so this is a great alternative.

Only negative is it is still a micro–USB Connection, the requires a double usb port. But that's been the acceptable standard for most external cd/DVD/blu ray drives for years. Just surprising that a drive manufactured in April 2025 hasn't been updated to USB C yet.

This is just what I was looking, and has been great. It's 4K UHD capable with a firmware update (well documented online), so great for storing physical media, etc. It's not the sturdiest feeling thing in the world, but for an external drive. My in PC Blu-ray writer died and so I got this so that I can at least play archival discs and access the data I've stored there on any USB capable computer. Future safety and it works. Very happy. I am loving my new disc player, colors are sharp and the sound quality is good.
Only downer is the software it runs keeps on asking for an upgrade that brings with it a yearly subscription I did not want when I brought this. I am loving my new disc player, colors are sharp and the sound quality is good.
