AOC Q27G2 27" QHD 155Hz Gaming Monitor

My thoughts after a month of use:

Pros:
-good colour, contrast, brightness
-slightly higher refresh rate than other similar monitors
-1440p looks very clean at this size
-good stand and sturdy construction
-variable refresh rate works with both AMD and Nvidia gpus (when using a displayport cable)
-colour profile and monitor control software available on AOC website
-displayport cable included in the box
-generally very nice looking with accurate colours for a gaming monitor and fairly understated design
-very clean brightness and colour uniformity, no bright spots on the edges of the display

-using medium overdrive setting and low input lag mode the monitor has absolutely no noticeable input lag

Cons:
-noticeable motion smearing on dark objects or contrasting colours in some games; this can be fixed by using the 'shadow control' feature (see notes)
-variable refresh rate causes brightness flickering at lower framerates though this is fixable (see notes)
-gamma is very slightly too high, this can be fixed through gpu settings
-monitor menu controls are in an awkward position and clunky to use
-my unit appears to have one very small piece of dust under the top layer of the display which is not noticeable with normal use but shouldn't occur at all

Notes:
Bought on sale this was a very good deal, however, at full price it would be worth spending slightly more for a monitor with an IPS panel which eliminates the motion smearing and brightness flickering problems. The claimed "1ms response time" is for grey-to-grey pixel transitions using the highest overdrive setting, which in games causes unnecessary ghosting. Using the medium overdrive setting results in a much cleaner picture. Response time is lower than claimed for scenarios like pixels transitioning from black to grey, or from bright blue to red, which will cause motion smearing due to a slightly longer response time. This is just a limitation of the VA panel used in this monitor. I have not yet found a fix for the motion smearing other than using the shadow control function, which raises the black level of the monitor, causing the contrast of the monitor to be lower and the colours to appear washed out, and as such I only use it when necessary. Most of the time it isn't a problem.
Variable refresh rate brightness flickering is due to the monitor being slightly brighter at higher refresh rates, and this can be fixed easily by using a tool called custom resolution utility to set the VRR range from 100-155hz instead of the standard 48-155hz.

If you need a new monitor or just want to upgrade to 1440p then this is a good option. Visuals are as expected. 155hz instead of 144hz is a bonus. The stand is almost fully rotatable. The bezels are a bit big but aren't too noticeable. Worth every penny. If you need a new monitor or just want to upgrade to 1440p then this is a good option. I bought this monitor on special, it's probably the best 27" 1440p monitor for the price, especially given it's better than advertised. It says 144Hz, when it's actually 155Hz and it comes with Nvidia G-sync...I didn't realize this until I updated the driver and the Nvidia control panel asked if I wanted to enable G-sync, which I did. The 27 size was bigger than my expected, really nice. easy to install the screen to Monitor Stand, and after i used this screen for a while, looking back to my original 16inch laptop screen, that the screen I feels very big in before, now it's just make me feels it is small like my phone screen. The monitor is really good but there are a few cheaper options which offer similar quality except for maybe the resolution and the size those are the only big differences between this and a cheaper one. Also the colours look great I would recommend this monitor to someone with a larger budget who prefers their games too look good. Was looking to upgrade my setup, the step up in quality with the reduction in price from what it was 4 years ago is amazing. Great screens.
