Firstly, the good parts
- it works as advertised
- there's a small battery built in, which allows you to press the button and have it open/close a few times even when the device isn't plugged in, which is good, because it means you can release the phone after turning the car ignition off.
- It charges the phone wirelessly, so there's no need to plug or unplug the cable.

However there are also bad aspects to the design:

However there are also bad aspects to the design:

- Because of the bulk of the motor mechanism, the phone sits closer to my steering wheel than the non-motorised version of this product. I found I kept brushing it with my fingers when using the indictor or turning the wheel, and it couldn't be mounted any further up the windscreen without blocking my view.
- It also sits lower than the non-motorised version, which means the suction cup has to be higher on the windscreen, and more in the way of my vision. You can't turn the arm upside down because it doesn't allow the holder to tip down far enough.
- The motor mechanism is quite slow, and takes a couple of seconds to open and close. The non-motorised version of this mount is just spring loaded, and opens instantly.
- On one occasion, the device suddenly opened by itself while I was driving, and my phone fell out and landed under my feet.
- The location of the open/close buttons, on the left and right edges is not great, and you're actually initially pushing against the action of the motor when you release the phone. By contrast, the non-motorised version of this has the release button on the back, and it's larger, and very easy to find by touch by just reaching behind - you also have your thumb naturally on the glass of the phone when doing this on the manual version, but on this one, your hand is off to the left or right, so you have to quickly move your hand to catch the phone as the clamps open.

Note that I did not test the included air vent mount, as I prefer my phone to be mounted on the right.
