TP-Link TL-WA801N Wi-Fi Access Point N300 Multiple Modes: Access Point / Client / Range Extender

I have a new ASUS router but was struggling to get strong signal to a back section studio. In my favour was ethernet cabling already in place. After trying to reconfigure my old Spark router as an AP (fail), and trying a powerline unit which I had (fail) I decided to change my approach with this AP unit. It was simple to set up (I struggle with technology) and hasn't missed a beat over the past 3 weeks. I wish I'd started here! Generally my experience with TP-Link equipment is positive. This seemed like a nice design with the option of powering it via PoE, but unfortunately this unit fell down in one important area: even with the latest firmware, the device would consistantly fail to receive a suitable IP address via DHCP (ie: the TP-Link 'SmartIP option') from the parent WiFi network (via a MikroTik router). Whether this was an incompatibility between the TP-Link and the MikroTik or something else, I do not know... Bought so that my smart devices at home could run off 2.4 GHZ easily without constant dropping out when they try to connect to my orbi router. This product has done just that, stable smart devices, easy set up. Does the job well !
