Ubiquiti UniFi (UCG-Ultra) Cloud Gateway Ultra

Great to see these finally available in New Zealand! Have been slowly upgrading the networks I look after with these since the beginning of the year as stock becomes available and they're a huge upgrade over the previous USG 3P I had been using.

Great new management features and site-to-site VPN that max out my 450mbps upload speeds, and it's nice to be able to update firewall rules without a 5+-minute delay.

If you're a bit more of an advance user, or have a small business to support, and the means to purchase your network hardware in individual pieces then you can't go past one of these. I had to wait six months for the stock to arrive but when it did it is the perfect device for a home network. Easy install and now it is up and running basically looks after its self. This replaced a USG 3P and works great! The WAN fail over is significantly faster, and the extra processing power means I can finally run full traffic identification and other features at line rate.

Dual WAN setup was more obscure than on the USG, it appeared to set it up automatically, but needed another 3rd party gateway network to be created before it would properly enable.

I purchased this router to replace an older device that could not keep up with 1Gb PPPOE. This router has no issues, and I regularly get 900-odd Mb down and 600Mb up. It just works!! Was expecting so much more from Ubiquiti product but pretty lack luster for a home networking solution, doesn't respond to particular command such as port and client blocking. Potentially has value if going to buy into their ecosystem of APs. However missing some key family features available on other brands. Well priced unit to provide excellent internet when paired with other UniFi items. Well priced unit to provide excellent internet when paired with other UniFi items.

This Cloud Gateway was relativelly straight forward to commission (I have some IT knowledge but am not a network admin).

There are numerous Youtube reviews with step by step instructions showing how to get the most out of this. My benefits using the Ubiquiti UniFi UCG-Ultra Cloud Gateway Ultra include:

1. The management console for my 4 AP's and one 8 poert switch is always on
2. I can see and manage network constraints
3. Interesting to view and manage who is using my internet and waht websites are consuming data
4. Great to set up IOT and Guest networks locking none family out of my trusted network

It's running the Unifi OS and controlling two wireless access points. No fuss at all.
I also have a CloudKey Plus which is controlling 5 Cameras and one Sensor.
